WARHOL MAKOS: ANDY LOVES HK
WARHOL MAKOS: ANDY LOVES HK is a series of limited-edition photographic works by renowned American photographer Christopher Makos, a close friend and long-time collaborator of legendary Pop artist Andy Warhol.
The images capture Andy Warhol on his first and only visit to Hong Kong over 40 years ago. Each set comes as a diptych, comprising an original black-and-white photograph as well as duo-tone reinterpretation that reanimates their adventure in colours reminiscent of Warhol’s iconic palette.
Andy Warhol and Christopher Makos arrived in Hong Kong on 27th October 1982 as guests of a major collector in the city. Illustrated via Makos’ lens, the two travelled through an array of the city’s landmarks, including Wong Tai Sin Temple, Star Ferry Pier, as well as the now demolished Kai Tak Airport. The artworks not only provide a peek behind the curtain of Warhol’s enigmatic personal life, but preserve and bear witness to a now forgotten piece of the city’s history.
